Sandi Toksvig

Born in Copenhagen, Sandi Toksvig is a well known writer, comedian and presenter. She began her comedy career at Girton College, Cambridge University, where she wrote and performed in the first all-woman show at the Footlights. Sandi performed at the first night of The Comedy Store in London and was part of the famous improvisational comedy team, The Comedy Store Players.

She has appeared on a variety of tv programmes including ‘Mock the Week’, ‘QI’ and ‘Have I Got News For You’. Sandi is a familiar voice for BBC Radio 4 listeners, as the chair of ‘The News Quiz’, and until this year was the main presenter of its travel programme ‘Excess Baggage’.

Sandi’s playwriting credits include ‘Bully Boy’ which focuses on post traumatic stress among British servicemen which opens in the West End in the autumn; a musical ‘Big Night Out’ and ‘Pocket Dream’, which transferred to the West End.

Sandi became the chancellor of Portsmouth University in January 2012.
Sandi as also a highly successful novelist, with a new novel entitled ‘Valentine Grey’ being published by Virago in the autumn. Sandi is currently writing several commissions, both drama and comedy, for Sprout Pictures.
