Aspiring pastry chef Antonia Salmon-Earle has been awarded a grant from the Women of the Year Foundation.
Having recently completed her A-levels at Bishop Challoner Catholic Collegiate College, a comprehensive school in Tower Hamlets, Antonia applied for a grant from the Women of the Year Foundation, in order to pursue a career as a pastry chef.
She has been offered a place on the International Patisserie Diploma course at Westminster Kingsway College, a centre of excellence in the catering industry that has taught many famous chefs including Jamie Oliver and Anthony Worral-Thompson.
The foundation has funded the course fees to enable Antonia to attend the intensive 24 week programme, which starts this month.
Joanne Gubbay, Head of Practice Learning and Development at Ashurst LLP comments: “We first met Antonia when she attended a work experience week at Ashurst aimed at sixth form students studying in Tower Hamlets, a London borough with high deprivation levels and where approximately 52% of the students qualify for free school meals. Antonia stood out from the rest of the students with her ambition and fantastic attitude. We were impressed by her determination to achieve, sometimes against the odds, as well as her mature approach to life.”
Antonia adds: “The last two years have enabled me to see the true beauty of pastry and has increased my love for the culinary arts. The funding from the Women of the Year has made it possible for me to start to turn this dream into reality.”
Antonia also sells her very own delicious cupcakes, and you can read about her culinary delights on her blog http://salmonearle.wordpress.com/
