We are delighted to announce Olympic gold medallist Dr Katherine Grainger CBE and inventor Emily Cummins as our new ambassadors. Both have won a Women of the Year award in recent years.

Katherine and Emily support Women of the Year’s work highlighting the extraordinary achievements of ordinary women and raising awareness of the matters that concern women today.

Katherine Grainger received the 2012 Good Housekeeping Women of the Year Award – alongside fellow Team GB Olympic and Paralympic Women medallists – in recognition of her outstanding achievement at the London 2012 Olympic Games, where she won Gold in the Women’s Double Sculls. Katherine is Britain’s most successful female rower, with Olympic silver medals from Sydney in 2000, Athens in 2004, and Beijing in 2008, as well as six world championships titles in her collection.

Katherine said: “I’ve been delighted to attend the Women of the Year Lunch and Lecture over the past few years and have been honoured to meet an incredible range of inspiring women. As an ambassador, I am looking forward to seeking out some of the amazing women within the sporting industry who can, in their turn, be recognised and celebrated as Women of the Year.”

Emily Cummins won the Women of the Year Award in 2009 after she revolutionised Village Africa with her solar-powered refrigerator. She strives to change the lives of people in poorer parts of the world with her innovative ideas and visits schools across the UK giving talks and mentoring young people.

Emily said: “I’m thrilled to become an ambassador for Women of the Year and hope I can help to encourage women – regardless of their age or background – to shout about the brilliant things they are doing every day.”
