We are so saddened to hear the news that heroic war reporter Marie Colvin has been killed in Syria. She was a good friend of Women of the Year (pictured here with Ruby Wax at the 2011 Lunch) and an inspirational woman. She will be sadly missed.

Marie received the Window to the World Award in 2001 – our very first year of giving the ‘Women of the Year’ Awards – for her bravery and raising awareness of the war in Sri Lanka.

Read Marie Colvin’s incredible speech, made in 2010, about the importance of reporting from war zones.
