Juliet Sanders
Juliet Sanders accepted the BP Community Champion from Angela Hartnett for her work with the food poverty charity that she founded, Feeding Families. Beginning as a personal project in 2016 delivering food hampers to a small number of families in desperate need over the festive period, Feeding Families now operates 365 days a year, providing emergency food to over 1,000 people a month across the North East of England. With the help of an army of dedicated local volunteers, Juliet’s vision is to build an organisation that is sustainable and here for the long run, but also one that is brave and bold in finding new angles to solve problems.
Juliet Sanders said,
“I wasn’t just honoured, but amazed to have been given this award. Tucked away in the north east, getting on with the battle against food poverty you don’t expect to be seen, let alone recognised. Feeding Families is a growing community that cares. As well as giving food we want people to know they have worth and deserve hope. We want to spread a movement of kindness and a belief that by small acts, together, we can make big changes. I hope this award will give recognition to the charity and will widen our influence so we can have more impact in the future.”
