Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE DL
Paralympian, Ambassador for Disability Support & Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords
Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson is a Paralympian, an ambassador for disability support and a Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords. Tanni’s sporting career started at the age of 13 when she began competing in wheelchair racing, she went on to compete in five Paralympic games winning 16 medals in total beginning with a bronze medal at the 1988 Seoul Games and concluding with two gold medals at the Athens Paralympics in 2004. She also won the London Wheelchair Marathon six times.
In 2010, Tanni became a member of the House of Lords, where she sits on the Crossbenches. She uses her experience and knowledge during debates in the House and has spoken on a range of issues including Disability Rights, Welfare Reform and Sport.
Tanni combines a wealth of experience as an athlete with personal experiences of working as a development officer and a talent pathway coach. Tanni is involved in a number of organisations, she is the Chair of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and of Sport Wales, as well as being a Board Member of UK Sport. She is the Chancellor of Northumbria University.
Tanni is married to Dr Ian Thompson and they have one daughter.
