Cambridge Days: Women of the Year x Newnham College
25th June 2025 by Vix Brenninkmeijer
I had the absolute pleasure of moderating a wonderful panel discussion on “Empowered Wellness – Navigating Women’s Health Through the Decades.”
Now in its 9th year, this event—brought to life by the partnership between Newnham College, University of Cambridge, and Women of the Year—continues to be one of those rare spaces where meaningful, honest conversations happen. This year’s focus on women’s health and wellbeing across all life stages really struck a chord with so many of us.
The day opened with a powerful and moving keynote from Myleene Klass MBE—presenter, musician, and passionate campaigner for miscarriage recognition in Parliament. Myleene shared her own deeply personal story with honesty, creating a moment of connection and reflection that set the tone for everything that followed. Her words stayed with many of us long after the event ended.
We were also lucky to be joined by three exceptional panelists who brought wisdom, insight, and humour to the discussion:
• Professor Susana Banerjee – Consultant Medical Oncologist & Clinical Director of Research at The Royal Marsden
• Dame Carol Black – Public health trailblazer and advocate for wellbeing in the workplace
• Victoria Keith-Roach – Founder and fierce champion of holistic approaches to women’s health
A huge thank you to Alison Rose for hosting us so graciously, and to Dr Amy Atkinson and Dr Xiangyu Sheng for keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. And a big thank-you to our new chair, Vix Brenninkmeijer, whose positivity and support made a real difference.
The Power of Sharing Our Stories
The feedback we’ve received since the event has been incredibly moving. So many attendees spoke about how comforting and empowering it was to hear stories and insights from women at different stages of life. These are the kinds of conversations that remind us just how much we gain when we make space for openness, vulnerability, and shared experience.
It’s not just about information—it’s about connection. About knowing we’re not alone in our questions, or our challenges.
Events like this continue to bring important topics to light, but more than that, they help build a community that uplifts and supports one another.
I feel so lucky to be part of this growing, evolving journey that celebrates women and continues to explore important topics.
Here’s to more honest conversations, more powerful connections, and many more years of championing each other.
Thanks for being part of it. 💜
Together, we are stronger, wiser, and more empowered.
