Women of the Year President, Sandi Toksvig, is hosting two events at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London as part of the 2015 Women of the World Festival.
Her first event, Backlash, will take place on Saturday 7 March and will be a panel discussion on ‘What does the feminist backlash look like and who suffers most?’ where Sandi will be chairing the event. The panel – which includes Chime for Change managing editor Mariane Pearl, journalist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown and Beatrix Campbell, author of End of Equality – discuss whether the backlash is inevitable and what we can do to challenge it.
The second event, Mirth Control will be an exciting evening of entertainment on Sunday 8 March to celebrate female talent, Sandi will present an A-list all-female cabinet for her dream political party. The event celebrates comedy and music that’s inspired and performed by talented women.
Other stars taking part include comedienne Sarah Millican and actress Sharon D. Clarke as well as performances from soprano Angel Blue, and conductors Sian Edwards and Alice Farnham. To round off, the evening’s events will be directed by theatre director Paulette Randall.
Additional music will be provided by Voicelab and the Women of the World Orchestra. It promises to be an evening to remember.
WOW – Women of the World is a global festival (1 – 8 March 2015) celebrating the achievements of women and girls and also looks at the obstacles that prevent them from achieving their potential and contributing to the world. With a diverse range of talks and debates, music and performance, parties, a marketplace, networking and much more, the festival brings together women and men to speak about how they are making the world a fairer place and why it matters.
